Here’s a little history to start things off: The term “herding cats” originated in the IT industry. According to “authoritative” sources at the top of my Google search, an IT professional named Dave Platt first used the phrase sometime around 1985, writing in a USENET post that “Managing senior programmers is like herding cats.”
Sad to say, he might just as well have been referring to managing workloads.
